Self pay is a simple and flexible way to access private healthcare without the need for medical insurance. It gives you control by allowing you to choose when and where you're treated, with clear, transparent pricing and no hidden costs.
If preferred, you can also spread the cost with a flexible finance plan through Chrysalis Finance, available to patients in Northern Ireland.

This means you can start your recovery sooner and get back to work, family life, and doing the things you enjoy, without unnecessary delays.
Terms and conditions

Northern Ireland Patient Terms & Conditions
This is a topline summary of the travel package for patients travelling from Northern Ireland for Total Hip Replacement (THR) or Total Knee Replacement (TKR) surgery in England.
What's included
If you're travelling from Northern Ireland to your chosen hospital, we'll cover, and organise:
- Return flights or ferry travel for you and one companion
- 3 nights' hotel accommodation for your companion
- Private car transfers — home to airport/port, and to and from the hospital
Who this applies to
The travel package is available when:
- You and your companion are both 18 or over on the date you travel out
- Your treatment takes place at one of our listed hospitals
- You're a self-pay patient
- Your treatment is for a Total Hip Replacement or a Total Knee Replacement (the package doesn't extend to other treatments)
- You haven't already booked your treatment package
- You've completed the triage questions and been assessed as clinically suitable
What's not included
You (or your companion) would need to cover the cost of any extras or upgrades, including:
- Additional luggage or seat selection
- Room upgrades or additional nights
- Meals for your companion
- Additional transfers
- Travel insurance and personal expenses
Booking — what we need from you
- Valid travel documents and ID for both you and your companion, kept valid for the whole trip
- Confirmation that you and your companion have (or will get) suitable travel insurance before you travel
We don't provide medical or travel insurance ourselves. Without your own cover, costs from cancellations, disruption or medical complications may not be recoverable.
We're not responsible for losses caused by missing or invalid documents, incorrect information you've given us, or a failure to meet airline, hotel or other supplier requirements — nor for delays, lost belongings or disruption caused by third parties or events outside our control.
Fitness to travel & changes to your dates
- We'll carry out a pre-assessment before confirming travel arrangements, which may flag clinical reasons why you shouldn't travel, or why plans need to change
- You're responsible for giving us complete, accurate and up-to-date information
- You'll need to follow clinical, travel, fit-to-fly and discharge advice
If your treatment date changes for reasons within our control, we'll handle the necessary travel changes and cover any reasonable amendment fees this causes.
Cancellations
If you cancel
Cancellation requests must be in writing. If bookings have already been made, you'll be responsible for reasonable, unrecoverable costs this causes (e.g. supplier fees, non-refundable travel, accommodation or transfers, and our admin costs for work already done). We'll always try to recover or offset costs first, and won't charge more than what we've actually and reasonably lost.
If we cancel
We may need to cancel — with as much notice as possible — if you're no longer fit or eligible to travel, your treatment is cancelled, information provided is inaccurate, terms aren't met, or something outside our control happens (e.g. severe weather, industrial action, public health emergencies). If the reason is within our control, we'll arrange suitable alternatives where possible; otherwise, we'll simply notify you as soon as we can.
What's included in your treatment package cost
- Pre-operative assessment
- The operation itself
- Your hospital stay and meals during admission
- Band-2 prosthesis
6-month aftercare for surgical complications is not included in your package — you'd need to see your local HSC for this. The cost of your initial consultation is also excluded.
